Lisette studied Biology at the Freie Universität Berlin (B.Sc.) and Molecular Life Sciences at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (M.Sc.). Subsequently, she completed her doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in the Developmental Genetics Department. Her research project included the isolation and analysis of the gene responsible for an embryonic lethal phenotype in the mouse. Using various genome engineering techniques Lisette worked on generating transgenic embryonic stem cells that were used for establishing transgenic mouse lines. Thereafter, she conducted research in other developmental biological projects within the same department. Besides acquiring competence in genetics, molecular and developmental biology, she has gained experience in the fields of cell biology, biochemistry and microbiology.
